Therefore, the aim of this training is to equip protected areas’ managers (and their partners) with tools and specific technical competencies to improve their modes of management and make their action sustainable.
At the end of this training, participants will be equipped with priority competencies for protected areas management. They will be able to implement appropriate planning methods for sustainable natural resources management. Their capacities in ecological monitoring, human/animals conflicts resolution, local conciliation and consultation… will be strengthened. Their knowledge of general tools (conventions, environmental law, management instruments, norms, etc.) will also be improved, and this will enhance their capacity to propose and implement conservation policies. These qualifications will be recognized through a University Diploma delivered by the Senghor University of Alexandria, partner of the training.
Training content
The training is divided into modules which combine theoretical courses with a field visit (two weeks). This field visit aims particularly at learning techniques of ecological monitoring and surveys, getting basic knowledge on fight against poaching, learning how to assess conflict situations and identify the actors involved, and how to set up consultation frameworks.
The programme deal with the following subjects:
- General context, definitions, management categories, PAs’, relevant main international conventions, climate change and PA’s (30 hours)
- Management and monitoring and evaluation effectiveness, management, development and business plans, fundamentals of sustainable conservation funding and projects’ arrangement (30 hours)
- Practical knowledge of ecology for PAs management and development (30 hours)
- Participatory approaches, territorial dynamics, management of environmental conflicts and arbitration (30 hours)
- Ecological monitoring and fauna survey techniques (on the field, 30h)
- Collecting data on field and methodology of analysis of data (on the field, 30h)
- Environmental law applied to PAs (30 h)
- Environmental economy (30h)

This training programme is intended for protected areas’ managers, environmental NGOs’ executives, etc.
Cost
The training costs are paid by organizers. This payment includes training costs, accommodation and food, transport (under conditions), subsistence allowance, insurance for the whole training period. Applicants will pay for the other possible costs.
