Final selection for the 2d DU period

Consult the final list of applicants selected for the second edition of the training on «strengthening the competencies in protected areas management (DU) that will be conducted in Ouagadougou from October 10 to December 2, 2011.

The Papaco, in collaboration with the Senghor University (Alexandria, Egypt), launches the third edition of the training on «strengthening the competencies in protected areas management ». This training is meant for PA managers and their partners on the ground, in particular NGOs. The third edition will be conducted from February 13, 2012 to April 6, 2012. Registration is open on the web site of University Senghor http://continue.senghor.refer.org.

The deadline for registration to the third edition is 15 October 2011.

Training objectives

« Capacity building in protected areas’ management” is a priority for the management and conservation of parks and reserves in West Africa. Planning, monitoring and evaluation tools, consultation methods and legal or technical norms are not generally well known by most protected areas’ managers.

Therefore, the aim of this training is to equip protected areas’ managers (and their partners) with tools and specific technical competencies to improve their modes of management and make their action sustainable.
At the end of this training, participants will be equipped with priority competencies for protected areas management. They will be able to implement appropriate planning methods for sustainable natural resources management. Their capacities in ecological monitoring, human/animals conflicts resolution, local conciliation and consultation… will be strengthened. Their knowledge of general tools (conventions, environmental law, management instruments, norms, etc.) will also be improved, and this will enhance their capacity to propose and implement conservation policies. These qualifications will be recognized through a University Diploma delivered by the Senghor University of Alexandria, partner of the training.

Training content

The training is divided into modules which combine theoretical courses with a field visit (two weeks). This field visit aims particularly at learning techniques of ecological monitoring and surveys, getting basic knowledge on fight against poaching, learning how to assess conflict situations and identify the actors involved, and how to set up consultation frameworks.
